THE ROLE:

Street Child is calling for individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking a voluntary communication role in Liberia. Street Child is currently seeking to conduct research on a number of issues affecting marginalized children in Liberia, to inform the design and development of appropriate initiatives. This placement is a unique opportunity to make a critical contribution to an organization that is setting up and scaling its efforts to enable out of school children in Liberia to access a meaningful education. Street Child offers placements for anywhere between four to twelve weeks , supporting our work in Liberia and the work of our partner organizations. Working alongside the Street Child of Liberia team, key responsibilities will include:

  • Collating case studies from the various Street Child projects in Liberia
  • Building the visual media library of Liberia, including photographs and film footage for marketing purposes
  • Training local staff on case study writing and photography
  • Collecting, consolidating and analyzing data from the field
  • Liaising with local partners and stakeholders
  • Weekly reporting from the Liberia team to the UK team
  • Blog contribution in the field
  • Researching interesting personal stories and the impact of the projects in Liberia

THE CHARITY:

Street Child's aim is to create educational opportunities for some of the world's most vulnerable children.

We started our work in Sierra Leone, nine years later, we have helped to transform the lives of more than fifty thousand children across Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal. This year, we launched our first project in Nigeria helping children impacted by conflict in the North East of the country.

Street Child is currently expanding its operations to Liberia, in an attempt to serve increasing numbers of children in need. Street Child of Liberia has been working with the Government of Liberia and partner organizations to strengthen the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children. As a volunteer, you will be part of an exciting stage of the organization's growth , and will work closely with the Street Child of Liberia team to support our programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A diploma in journalism, marketing, media studies, of andere relevante onderwerpen of een bewezen vermogen in communicatie
  • Excellent social media skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive and professional approach
  • A creative and innovative mind
  • A passion for international development
  • Photography and video skills are an advantage

Prior experience of digital marketing, managing social media content or working with online media outlets preferred. A working knowledge of design software packages (esp. Photoshop) and a flair for design would be a distinct advantage, but not essential for an otherwise excellent candidate looking to develop in this area and with strong interpersonal skills.

TERMS:

Den vellykkede ansøger skal være forberedt på at leve og arbejde i østlige forhold når det kræves, og at rejse uafhængigt af Liberia. Ansøgeren skal være i stand til at administrere deres arbejdsplan og rapportere regelmæssigt til holdet på fremskridt, og vil blive anset som værdsat medlem af teamet.

A fundraising commitment will be required of the successful applicant , for which support will be provided by Street Child UK staff. Den vellykkede ansøgeren vil være nødvendig å leve i Liberia for minst 4 uker.  Food and flights are at the applicant's own expense . Accommodation will be provided by Street Child at a fixed cost, and may require sharing rooms with another volunteer of any gender. A more detailed breakdown of costs and expenses will be provided for those applicants selected for an interview.
